The Role of the Biomechanics Expert in Evaluating a Criminal Case of Vehicle Assault: A Case Study Addressing Fraud

This case involved two couples who lived and worked in a rural area. They were employed by the same company and shared the same work pickup truck during different work shifts. Grievances and animosity had developed between the two parties and therefore motivation to "get even" could be ascribed to both parties.

One afternoon, the husband of one of the couples claimed that as he was walking to his mailbox, the female of the other couple purposely drove the company pickup truck off the road striking him and leaving him incapacitated for a period of time. He recalled that the female was smiling as she drove into him and then remembered her driving to and parking in the vehicle exchange spot near his house. The accused female perpetrator was allegedly then picked up by her boyfriend and the two drove away from the area.

Some insects play an important role in forensic investigations. Luciliacuprina fly is one such insect that are forensically important and act as helpful resource at the crime scenes as these are one of the first flies to occupy the corpse immediately after death. Moreover the temperature also plays an important role in the growth of larvae of these insects which can give clues about the crime.

Applications of Nano-technology in forensic department

Nano technology is having huge applications in forensic department as it helps in the diagnosis and examining of samples at a nano-scale level. Integration of nano- technology with finger prints produces wide range of implications and  enhances the clarity of finger prints. For example, clarity of latentfinger prints can be improved by using golden- nano particles. Aqueous solution of silver nano-particles is used for the investigation of amino acids present on the fingers and the modified golden nano-particles were used for sedum based investigation. Engineering of new nano-particles will help the development of advanced techniques for forensic investigation.
